WHAT IS SEO?
Like many areas of technology or really anything complicated….well…anything at all, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) can be so convoluted by varying opinions and sources that after a considerable amount of research a person can wind up feeling more lost than when they began their inquiry! At it’s core, SEO is the communication line between your website, search engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc), and your clients, customers and users. The goal of SEO is to succinctly and accurately communicate what you offer to search engines in a way that conveys authority, usefulness, and "hub-ness." In other words, we want to tell the search engines that your website is important, and to do that we need to speak their language completely and extensively.
Fortunately, the language of search engines has been translated into to enough tangible bullet points that we humans can speak search engine. Well…some of us can! The truth is that even though SEO is simple at it’s core, the ins and outs of SEO are not simple, and people often take the wrong path or choose to take no path at all. Once you know what to look for, you’ll be surprised how many reputable businesses have extremely poor SEO on their site. Often times this is because their website designer didn’t know any better, the business didn’t know any better and the business is successful enough without it. Understanding the basics of SEO and utilizing good SEO practices will help you make sure you aren't losing potential clients and sales to your competitors.
